Selecting temporary personnel for the catering & hospitality industry

Our policy of recruiting and retaining the best people permeates the whole of our service offering. Just as we want to employ the brightest and most highly skilled staff to run our company, so we want to ensure that we identify the most appropriate motivated and professional workers for your business.

To this end we have developed an extremely rigorous recruitment process, which has been designed to identify each candidate’s strengths, weaknesses, preferences, skills and a wide range of more personal attributes. The process goes through a number of key steps. These are outlined below:

Registration
In the first instance, would-be candidates are asked to provide us with essential information of the type that would typically be found on a standard CV – personal details, vocational and non-vocational qualifications, employment history, key skills and referees. Providing the information given is of a sufficiently high calibre, the applicant will then move on to the interview stage.

In-depth interview
Conducted by one of our highly-trained consultants, the interview process aims to flesh out the basic information gathered during the registration stage. The consultant will probe beneath the surface content and draw out from the candidate his/her skills, experience, aptitude, career goals, motivation, interests and job preferences.

Referencing
Prior to assigning a temporary worker to any client, we seek and obtain references. We view the referencing stage as crucial to the entire recruitment process and take pains to ensure that all possible checks regarding a candidate’s suitability have been carried out. In the case of bulk recruitment, we outsource the checking of references to our centralised Response and Call Centre in Luton.

Proof of qualifications
Where practical, applicants are asked to produce certificated proof of qualifications e.g. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, City & Guilds qualifications. Copies of all certificates are kept on the candidates file and are available for clients to view upon request.

Criminal record
All candidates are requested to sign a declaration stating that they have no criminal record.

Sickness record
Candidates are asked to confirm they are in good health and sign a declaration to this effect.

Work permits
All overseas visitors wishing to register for temporary work are asked to provide their official work permit before an interview can be arranged with a consultant. Blue Arrow is currently working with UK Immigration Services to shape future working practices for both agencies and the industry in general.

Matching candidates’ skills to clients’ requirements
By identifying with clients the specific requirements of each assignment, and gathering information on equipment to be used, the working environment and client culture and policies, we are able to match candidates to assignments quickly and effectively.
